Beach Access Improvements Complete: Safer, compliant crossings at Preservation Bay and Midway Point

Council has now completed key upgrades to improve beach access at Preservation Bay and Midway Point, creating safer, compliant and legal pedestrian access across the railway and better links between the shared pathway, camping area and the beach.

Preservation Bay: New stairs and compliant rail crossing now open

The original sandy track to the beach (approximately halfway along Preservation Bay) has been replaced with new stairs. This upgrade combines with an updated pedestrian rail crossing to provide a compliant and legal access across the railway, linking the shared pathway directly to the beach.

Midway Point: New inclusive access delivered in a safer location

At Midway Point, the original timber stairs have been removed, and a new inclusive access has been constructed further to the east.

The new location provides better sight distance for approaching trains and delivers a compliant and legal access across the railway, improving the connection between the shared pathway, Midway Point camping area, and the beach.

Thank you for your patience while these improvements were delivered. Please continue to take care near the railway corridor, use the designated crossings, and follow all signage on site.

The Cradle Coast Authority secured funding from the State Government's Trails and Bikeways Program for the North West Coastal Pathway project, a 110km shared pathway connecting Wynyard to Latrobe. It features sections like West Ulverstone, Sulphur Creek to Penguin, and Leith to Don, aimed at improving active transport and tourism.
