Ironcliffe Road Project Complete!

2 March 2026

Central Coast Council is pleased to confirm the Ironcliffe Road Upgrade Project is now complete, with line marking finished in late February marking the final step in this $9.4 million upgrade.

Spanning approximately 10km, the upgraded route improves safety, reliability and accessibility for local residents and businesses, emergency services, and people travelling to the Dial Range recreation area and Mt Gnomon.

What we delivered

  • Key improvements completed as part of the project include:
  • Safety upgrades across the corridor, including improved sightlines at bends and the realignment of ‘Horseshoe Bend’, a well-known dangerous corner
  • McBrides Creek (Ferndene) Bridge widened from one lane to two lanes, improving traffic flow and safety
  • Road widening, drainage and culvert upgrades, including:
    • 1.2km of kerb and channel
    • 67 driveways constructed and sealed
    • 2.3km of guardrail installed
  • Bitumen sealing and line marking to complete the upgraded road surface

This project was jointly funded through the Australian Government’s Remote Roads Upgrade Pilot Program ($7.52 million) and Central Coast Council ($1.88 million). The upgraded Mt Gnomon Dial Range car park was also supported with a contribution from Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service.

Council acknowledges Hardings Group Pty Ltd and their crews for delivering the works to a high standard.
