About

Project Complete

Central Coast Council is pleased to confirm the Ironcliffe Road Upgrade Project is now complete, with line marking in early March marking the final step in this $9.4 million upgrade.

Spanning approximately 10km, the upgraded route improves safety, reliability and accessibility for local residents and businesses, emergency services, and people travelling to the Dial Range recreation area.

Key improvements completed as part of the project include:

  • Safety upgrades throughout, including visibility improvements at bends and realignment of the ‘Horseshoe Bend’, a well-known dangerous corner.
  • Widening of the McBrides Creek (Ferndene) Bridge from one lane to two lanes.
  • Road widening, drainage, and culvert upgrades, including 1.2km of kerb and channel; construction and sealing of 67 driveways; and 2.3km of guardrail.
  • Bitumen sealing and line marking.

Please be aware:

The speed limit on Ironcliffe Road is changing from 100km/h down to 70km/h. New speed limit signs are being installed, and motorists are reminded to take care, follow the updated signage and adjust their speed accordingly.

Thank you to the community:

Council sincerely thanks local residents, property owners and road users for their patience and cooperation throughout construction. We acknowledge the impacts of traffic changes, construction noise, and access arrangements during the works period, and we appreciate the community’s support as we delivered a safer and more reliable road for everyone.

Central Coast Council has upgraded Ironcliffe Road, Penguin as part of the Australian Government's Remote Roads Upgrade Pilot Program. This vital section of road connects schools, sports venues, and tourist spots.

The project upgrade was undertaken in three sections:

  • Section 3 (Mount Gnomon Car Park to Mt Gnomon Farm)
  • Section 2 (Mount Gnomon Farm to Hardys Road)
  • Section 1 (Hardys Road to Sports Complex Avenue)
