About

About the Project

Central Coast Council is continuing to invest in safer, more reliable local roads that support everyday travel and help maintain important community infrastructure for the long term.

The West Pine Road Upgrade will improve the first 1.5 kilometres of West Pine Road in Penguin, from the Creamery Road intersection through to Porters Road.

The project follows a road safety audit completed in 2023, which identified opportunities to improve road safety, visibility, drainage and the overall condition of this section of road.

The Creamery Road intersection has also been recognised as a high-risk location for potential crashes through the Australian Government Black Spot Program.

Why this work is needed

West Pine Road is an important local road used by residents, landowners, service vehicles and visitors travelling through the Penguin area.

This section of road currently has narrow sections, inconsistent road width, limited visibility in some areas and roadside conditions that can make travel more difficult, particularly at the Creamery Road intersection.

The upgrade will help create a safer and more consistent road environment by widening and strengthening the road, improving sightlines and upgrading drainage.

What the upgrade includes

The project includes road resurfacing and visibility improvements at the Creamery Road intersection, as well as:

  • Reshaping the uphill roadside embankment to improve visibility
  • Widening and strengthening the road to create a consistent 6-metre-wide sealed surface
  • Improving stormwater drainage, including replacement culverts and roadside drains
  • Installing new guardrail on the downhill side of the road
  • Improving existing driveways and access points where required
  • Relocating public services away from the road edge
  • Installing additional caution signage
Timeframe

Works are expected to take place from May to October 2026.

During construction, road users may see stop/go traffic control and experience short delays at times.

Workers will aim to keep disruption to a minimum while the work is completed safely.

Safety during works

Please slow down, follow all safety signage and traffic control directions, and take extra care when travelling through the work area.

The site will be managed and supervised by Walters Contracting Pty Ltd on behalf of Central Coast Council.

This project is jointly funded by Central Coast Council and the Black Spot Program by the Australian Government.
