December 2025 Project Updates

Car Park

Community Shed Car Park Upgrades

Construction of the new car park at the Ulverstone Community Shed is now complete, marking an important milestone in the Ulverstone Showground Precinct Upgrade Project.

The upgrade delivers:

  • A new vehicle entry from Alice Street
  • A dedicated car park immediately beside the Shed
  • Safer, more convenient parking for members, especially those with mobility challenges

This $50,000 project was funded through a grant from the Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association, helping support the ongoing work of this vital community space.

Irrigation System

Underground Irrigation System

Ulverstone Showground irrigation upgrade starting soon!

To support the long-term sustainability of the Ulverstone Showground, Council will soon begin installing a new underground irrigation system.

Why we’re doing this:

  • More consistent watering coverage across the sports fields
  • Less manual watering and fewer irrigators to move around in summer
  • Smarter, automated scheduling to help conserve water
  • Better turf quality to keep the grounds in good condition year-round

Timing and impacts:

  • Works are planned to start in early January 2026
  • Expected duration: around 3–4 weeks
  • The sports field area will be closed while works are underway (timed around the soccer roster to reduce disruption)

What’s not affected:

  • The dog park and Legion Park will remain open
  • Outdoor basketball courts will remain open
  • Access to community group spaces will not be impacted

Looking for space to kick a ball while the field is closed? There are plenty of nearby open spaces, including West Beach Reserve, Tobruk Park, Bicentennial Park, ANZAC Park and Fairway Park.

Thanks for your patience while we deliver this important work.

The upgrade is part of Council’s commitment to more sustainable water operations and better sports facilities across the Central Coast.

Changerooms

Ulverstone Soccer Club Changerooms

Works are progressing well on the Ulverstone Soccer Club Changerooms, with the project now in the active build phase and structural works underway.

The project remains on track for completion by April 2026 and will deliver modern, inclusive facilities that support the Club’s growth and improve amenities across the wider showground precinct.

What the new facility will include

  • Two large changerooms that can operate as four smaller changerooms for junior teams
  • Separate umpire facilities
  • New public toilets, including a DDA-compliant cubicle
  • Removal of the existing “old boozer” building and small amenities block (to make way for the new build)

These upgrades will also help the Club meet National Premier League and Women’s Super League facility requirements for the 2026 season.

About

About the Project

We’re upgrading facilities within the Ulverstone Showground Precinct to better support local sport and community use. Works include new changerooms for the Ulverstone Soccer Club, installation of an efficient underground irrigation system to conserve water, and construction of a new sealed car park at the Community Shed.

The Ulverstone Soccer Club, based within the Ulverstone Showground Precinct, operates from a small weatherboard building and aging changeroom facilities. Over the past decade, participation in soccer has grown significantly, with the Club now the largest sporting organisation in the Central Coast.

To support this growth, Council has secured $434,000 in funding from the Tasmanian Government to contribute to the construction of new changerooms that meet modern standards for accessibility, inclusion and functionality.

Council engaged Milton Smith Building Design + Develop to prepare the designs in close consultation with the Ulverstone Soccer Club. The final plans deliver two large changerooms that can also operate as four smaller changerooms for junior teams, along with separate umpire facilities and new public toilets, including a DDA-compliant cubicle.

The new facilities will not only support the continued success of the Club but will also benefit the wider community by improving amenities within the showground precinct. The changerooms will support the Club to meet the licence requirements of the National Premier League and Women’s Super League competitions for 2026 season.

To make way for the new construction, the existing ‘old boozer’ building and a small amenities block will be removed.

To support the long-term sustainability of the Ulverstone Showground, Council is installing an underground irrigation system to improve turf quality and reduce manual watering requirements.

The new system will deliver consistent coverage across the sports fields, conserve water through automated scheduling, and ensure the grounds remain in good condition for year-round use. It will also improve the efficiency of maintenance operations by reducing the need for staff to transport irrigators during the summer months.

This upgrade supports a wider vision to improve the condition of the playing surface, while reducing the maintenance costs across sports facilities across the Central Coast.
