About

About the project

The Central Coast Council conducts regular inspections of its bridges and jetties to ensure public safety. Due to the aging condition of the Penguin Jetty, monthly inspections have been carried out to closely monitor its structural integrity.

Following an inspection in early 2025, it was confirmed that the jetty’s deterioration had worsened, increasing the risk to public safety. As a precautionary measure, Council made the decision to close the jetty to the public effective 28 February 2025.

Jetty Reopened

Council is pleased to announce the reopening of the Penguin Jetty following important temporary repairs. These works were undertaken to ensure the jetty remains safe and accessible for public use.

The works included:
  • Installing new FRP flooring on the deck to remove trip hazards from the old sleepers.
  • Adding new posts on the ramp side to improve access and provide better contact points for boats.
  • Installing new support posts at the end of the jetty to extend the life of the structure.

The repairs will help maintain the jetty’s condition until the broader Johnsons Beach Precinct Plan is implemented, supporting long-term improvements for the area.

Johnsons Beach Precinct Plan

In 2025-26, Council will develop a Johnsons Beach Precinct Plan to guide the long-term future of the jetty, boat ramp, and surrounding areas. Community consultation will be a key part of this process to ensure the plan reflects local priorities and aspirations.

This approach will allow Council to consider the jetty’s role within the broader Penguin township and deliver a long-term solution that meets community needs. It will also integrate with coastal pathways and address other important factors such as parking and accessibility.
