Precinct 7: Forth River Corridor
The Forth River Corridor includes Forth, Kindred and Sprent.
Open spaces in this area include the river corridor, wetlands, sports grounds and open parkland. These spaces support sport, family recreation, water-based activities and natural values.
Overall, the plan finds that local open spaces in the precinct are generally well distributed. The main focus is on improving existing facilities, filling some gaps, and planning for future needs.
What is proposed
Council is proposing to:
- Replace ageing park furniture, including seats and tables, across the precinct
- Improve playground facilities at Forth Recreation Ground
- Consider whether a local playground is needed in Sprent
- Investigate the need for an off-leash dog exercise area
Forth Recreation Ground
The plan identifies a need to improve play opportunities at Forth Recreation Ground.
This could include:
- Upgraded playground equipment
- More suitable play options for younger children
- Seating and shade
- A fenced play area
These improvements would help the space better support local children and families.
Sprent
Sprent does not currently have a Council-owned local park. Right now, the community is supported by access to Sprent Primary School’s outdoor spaces outside school hours.
The plan notes that if the school were to close in the future, Council may need to provide a local open space for the area.
Access and connections
Forth has a good network of footpaths, but there are still some missing links. The plan supports future footpath extensions to improve access and connections within the township.
What this means
These recommendations are intended to:
improve existing parks and play spaces
support children and families with better local facilities
plan ahead for future community needs
improve access and connections across the precinct
