Precinct 6: Heybridge
Heybridge’s open spaces are shaped by the Blythe River, the foreshore, the beach and nearby bushland. These places support everyday recreation, water-based activities, bushland trails and conservation.
Compared with other areas, parks and open spaces in Heybridge are not spread evenly across the precinct. Council's focus in Heybridge is to support key spaces already serving the community and improve how they work over time.
What is proposed
Council is proposing to:
- Provide a new playground at Heybridge Recreation Ground
- Replace ageing park furniture, including seats and tables, across the precinct
- Keep the Blythe River boat ramp available for public use
- Work with the Heybridge Improvement Association to support the Blythe Heads Hall Reserve
- Remove ageing playground assets from Fire Station Reserve when they reach the end of their life
Access and connections
There are currently no footpaths in the residential areas of Heybridge, although a pathway along the Bass Highway connects the precinct with Sulphur Creek.
The plan notes a future opportunity to improve local connections by providing a footpath along River Avenue.
What this means
These recommendations are intended to:
support the main open spaces already serving the community
improve play opportunities in more suitable locations
maintain access to boating and water recreation
continue improving parks and facilities over time
