One Giant Leap For Play

3 March 2026

Central Coast Council has unveiled the final design for the upgrade of the iconic Anzac Park Rocketship in Ulverstone, following strong community input through Council’s Parks and Playgrounds consultation.

The consultation attracted more than 1,200 responses and confirmed the Rocketship’s importance as a much-loved local landmark, while also highlighting strong support for improvements that make it safer, more accessible and ready for future generations.

The final design adopts a hybrid approach shaped by community feedback, retaining and refurbishing the original Rocketship while adding new play elements to support inclusive play.

The upgrade will restore and strengthen the Rocketship with new footings and structural improvements, bringing it up to contemporary playground standards and enabling it to reopen for internal play.

New play features will be integrated with the existing structure, including an enclosed tube slide connecting to the upper level and additional slides to expand play opportunities. A new access ramp to the lower level and interactive play panels will improve inclusive, all abilities access while maintaining the Rocketship’s distinctive character.

Director of Infrastructure Services Nick Browne said the final design reflects both the community’s strong attachment to the Rocketship and its desire to see it refreshed for the future.

“The Anzac Park Rocketship is an iconic part of Ulverstone and holds a special place for many local families,” Mr Browne said.

“This design strengthens the original structure and brings it up to contemporary standards, allowing it to reopen for internal play in a way that is safer, more accessible and fit for future generations.”

To complete the works, the Rocketship will be temporarily removed and returned to site once structural improvements are finalised.

Council will now call tenders for construction, with works expected to be completed by 30 June 2026, subject to tender outcomes and approvals.

The Rocketship upgrade forms part of Council’s $750,000 commitment to playground upgrades across the municipality in 2025–26.
