About

About the project

In October 2022, significant flooding and storm damage impacted infrastructure across our region, with Lowana Road being particularly affected by landslips, creating safety risks.

To address this, Council has completed rectification works on Lowana Road to stabilise the damaged slope and prevent further impacts.

This is the tenth and final project as part of Council’s $1M+ commitment to storm recovery under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) following the 2022 storm event.

Key Works Included:

  • Construction of a gabion retaining wall to stabilize the slope. This was completed 06 June 2025.
  • Installation of a cut-off drain to divert water away from the damaged area
  • Upgrading culverts to improve drainage
  • Rebuild of the road pavement in-front of the wall

Please note: Road surfacing work is taking place, this work will be completed towards the end of the year.

Impact on Residents:

We acknowledge the temporary disruption this project has caused for local residents and road users, and we apologise for any inconvenience. These essential rectification works were undertaken to ensure the long-term safety and stability of Lowana Road. Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout the process.

Please note: The final road resurfacing work will be completed later in the year.  Pavement sealing requires warmer conditions and is a short process – a road closure will not be necessary to undertake the work.
