What's happening now:
Leven Canyon walking track renewal works
Council is preparing to carry out important safety and renewal works on the Leven Canyon walking track.
The project includes repairs to the 697 steps that connect the upper and lower sections of the track. These steps have been identified as needing repair to reduce trip hazards and help maintain Leven Canyon as one of Central Coast’s key regional walking experiences.
Temporary closure: 27–28 May
To prepare for the works, the Leven Canyon car park and reserve will be closed on Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 May while a helicopter delivers materials needed for the project.
This work has been scheduled ahead of wedge-tailed eagle breeding season.
The area will reopen after the helicopter works are complete.
Track works from early June
Main track works are expected to begin in early June and take approximately 8 weeks.
During this time:
- the steps between the upper and lower tracks will be temporarily closed
- the full loop walk using the steps will be unavailable
- visitors will still be able to access Cruickshanks Lookout and Edge Lookout
- on-site signage will be installed to guide visitors while the closure is in place.
An Aboriginal heritage assessment has been undertaken for this project.
Council thanks visitors and the community for their patience while this important safety work is planned and delivered. Visitors are encouraged to take care, follow temporary signage and plan their visit accordingly.
