About

About the project

Remediation works were undertaken to repair significant landslip and storm damage to Gunns Plains Road which occurred during the October 2022 adverse weather event.

The McPhersons Road Bridge was also repaired as part of this project.

These $2.8m works were funded through the Tasmanian Relief and Recovery Arrangements as well as Central Coast Council capital budget.

The innovative engineering solutions employed on this project will future proof our rural roads, providing safer access for our community.

Road Access Changes

Road Access Changes

Road closures at the site of the works will be necessary due to the challenging nature of the works to be undertaken, and the narrow roadways and steep embankments.

It is important to note that access to private properties and businesses will NOT be blocked throughout the duration of the works, however detours will be in place.

Access to Gunns Plains Road between Preston Road and Raymond Road will be open for residents only to access their properties. There will be no access through the work site for ANY traffic.

All through-traffic will be detoured via Preston Road/Raymond Road. Detours will all be well signposted. The bridge replacement on McPhersons Road is projected to have minimal impact as a bypass bridge will be in place whilst the new bridge is built. Access to Gunns Plains from Penguin will remain unchanged.

The map below highlights work sites and detours.

Whilst we acknowledge the necessary detours will be inconvenient for some road users, the alternate routes will add a reasonably short increase to trip times (estimated 6-9 mins depending on route).

Council is committed to minimising disruptions whilst ensuring these important works are undertaken safely.
