Overview

Central Coast Council is inviting community feedback on its draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP)

This plan sets out how Council will work towards creating a more inclusive and accessible community over the coming years. It includes actions across areas like public spaces, events, services and communication, with a focus on removing barriers and improving access for people with disability.

Did you know?

This draft plan builds on the progress made under Council’s previous Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (2022–2025), including improvements to accessible infrastructure, communication and community engagement. The new plan continues this work while identifying new priorities and opportunities for improvement.

The draft plan has been developed with input from Council staff and the Disability Access and Inclusion Working Group. We are now seeking feedback from the wider community to make sure it reflects real experiences and priorities.

We want to know:

  • Does the plan focus on the right things?
  • Are the actions practical and meaningful?
  • Is there anything missing?

There are a number of ways to get involved, including completing the online survey or attending a drop-in session to speak directly with the project team.

If you have accessibility requirements or need support to take part, please contact us. We can provide information in alternative formats or assist you to share your feedback in a way that works for you.

Your feedback will help us refine the plan before it is finalised and presented to Council.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP)?

A Disability Access and Inclusion Plan outlines how Council will work towards making its services, facilities and public spaces more accessible and inclusive for people with disability.

Why is Council developing a new plan?
Council has legal obligations under state and federal anti-discrimination laws to ensure its services, facilities and public spaces are accessible and inclusive. A Disability Access and Inclusion Plan helps Council meet these obligations in a planned and transparent way. This new plan builds on the previous 2022–2025 plan and sets out the next stage of work, including new priorities and actions.

Has anything from the previous plan actually been delivered?
Yes. Council has made progress under the previous plan, including improvements to accessible infrastructure, communication and engagement. You can see the full list of delivered outcomes here. This new plan continues that work and identifies where more needs to be done.

Why is the consultation online?
Online engagement allows people to provide feedback at a time and pace that suits them, and supports more detailed and considered responses. It also helps Council reach a broader group of people. There are also other ways to get involved, including drop-in sessions, support at the Admin Centre, and the option to provide feedback by phone, email or in person.

I’m not comfortable using online surveys — what are my options?
You can attend one of the drop-in sessions and speak with the project team, visit the Admin Centre for support, or contact us directly to provide your feedback in another way. A plain English summary is available, and alternative formats can be provided on request. If you have accessibility requirements or need support to take part, please contact us and we will work with you to find a suitable option.

Will my feedback actually make a difference?
Yes. Feedback will be reviewed and used to refine the final plan where appropriate. A summary of feedback will be provided to Councillors to support their decision-making.

When will the plan be finalised?
Following consultation, feedback will be reviewed and the plan updated. The final DAIP will be presented to Council for endorsement in June.

How will I know what happened after consultation?
Council will provide a summary of feedback and outline how it was considered in the final plan.
